I Will Survive

--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
At first I was afraid I was petrified.
Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side.
But then I spent so many nights
Thinking how you did me wrong.
And I grew strong!
And I learned how to get along!
So now you're back from out of space.
I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face.

I should have changed that stupid lock!
I should have made you leave your key!
If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me.

Go on now, go, walk out that door!
Just turn around now‚
cause you're not welcome any more.
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt (crush) me with goodbye?

Did I crumble
Did I lay down and die
Oh no, not I! I will survive!
Oh and as long as I know how to love I know I stay alive.
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give.
And I'll survive!
I will survive! Hey, hey.

It took all the strength I had not to fall apart.
Kept tryin' hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart!
And I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself. I used to cry!
But now I hold my head up high.
And you see me somebody new!
I'm not that chained-up little person still in love with you.

And so you feel like droppin' in,
and just expect me to be free,
now I'm saving all my loving for someone who is loving me!

Go on now...

Her Grammy Award winning signature song, I Will Survive, an inspiration that has touched the hearts of people all over the world. This September 2002, Logic Records/BMG released the highly anticipated U.S. LP entitled I Wish You Love. This is Gloria Gaynors first worldwide release in 15 years. It will encompass 15 singles including the debut power ballad I Never Knew with dance remixes by Grammy veteran Hex Hector.
Glorias depth as an artist reach new heights in several up-tempo hits including Just No Other Way and Got To Be Forever. As an added bonus track, Gloria recorded her anthem I Will Survive in Spanglish, recorded live in Brazil!
In 1973, Gloria Gaynor made history as Billboard gave birth to the Disco Action Charts. Never Can Say Good-Bye bowed at #1 on the charts and became the first Dance Song to reach #1 status in dance music. 30 years later, Gloria Gaynor is still setting the standard. In March of 2001, her single, Just Keep Thinkin About You, topped the Billboard Dance/Club charts at #1, while her international hit Last Night with Giorgio Moroder debuted at #1 throughout Europe. In keeping with the theme of #1, Gloria Gaynor was the first to record an album especially for clubs, and the first to do a mega-extended dance medley party mix, releasing 12 dance singles that are now high-end collectors items.
Gloria Gaynors popularity has continuously flourished into the new millennium. In March, she was honored at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo with the coveted LEGEND award presented by long time fan Prince Albert. She made a splash on Broadway in the longest running musical revue, Smokey Joes Café. FOX television series That 70s Show and the wildly popular, Ally McBeal featured Gloria Gaynor as a guest star introducing her to a whole new generation of television viewers. The film industry continues to feature I Will Survive, on the soundtrack of more than a half dozen major motion picture releases.
The song will be featured this summer in the blockbuster release MEN IN BLACK II. VH-1 honored Gloria Gaynor with the number one spot during their countdown of the Top 100 Dance Records of All Time for I Will Survive.
Live concerts are an integral part of Gloria Gaynor. She has touched audiences in more than 80 countries with her electrifying performances. Numerous dignitaries and ambassadors from the likes of President Clinton, Princess Grace, Prince Rainer and Pope John Paul II have had the pleasure of watching Ms. Gaynor perform. The French World Cup Soccer Team appointed her as their official Godmother because of her inspiring, uplifting music. Gloria even made the time to write an autobiography entitled, I Will Survive (St. Martins Press) that is a revealing trip through her journey in life. She also lends her support to numerous charities ranging from the likes of The Rita Hayworth Gala for Alzheimers to Revlons Annual Walk for Life.
Whatever Gloria Gaynor sets out to accomplish you can be sure that it will have a positive transformation in the art of music and life as everything she touches is with her deep spirit. Experience this transformation with Gloria on her new globally released album on Logic Records/BMG

"I Will Survive" is a hit song first performed by American singer Gloria Gaynor, released in October 1978. It was written by Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris. A top-selling song after its initial release, it has remained a popular disco anthem, as well as being certified double platinum by the RIAA.

The song's lyrics describe the narrator's discovery of personal strength following an initially devastating breakup, delivered with increasing confidence and backed by a stirring instrumental accompaniment. It is one of the most famous disco songs of all time and remains Gaynor's biggest hit. It received heavy airplay in 1979, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and on the UK Singles Chart on consecutive weeks. The song is also frequently recalled as a symbol of female strength

Gloria Gaynor (born September 7, 1949) is an American singer, best known for the disco era hits "I Will Survive" (Hot 100 number 1, 1979), "Never Can Say Goodbye" (Hot 100 number 9, 1974), "Let Me Know (I Have a Right)" (Hot 100 number 42, 1980) and "I Am What I Am" (R&B number 82, 1983).

Gaynor was born in Newark, New Jersey, to Queenie May Proctor and Daniel Fowles. Gaynor's grandmother always lived nearby and was involved in her upbringing.[1] "There was always music in our house", Gaynor wrote in her autobiography, I Will Survive. She enjoyed listening to the radio, and to records by Nat "King" Cole and Sarah Vaughan. Her father played the ukulele and guitar and sang professionally in nightclubs with a group called Step 'n' Fetchit. Her brothers sang gospel and formed a quartet with a friend. Gaynor was not allowed to sing with the all-male group, nor was her younger brother, Arthur, because he was too young. Arthur later acted as a tour manager for Gaynor. The family was relatively poor, but Gaynor recalls the house being filled with laughter and happiness, and the dinner table being open to neighborhood friends. They moved to a housing project in 1960 and Gloria grew up as a tomboy. "All through my young life I wanted to sing, although nobody in my family knew it", Gaynor wrote in her autobiography. Gloria was a member of her school choir, the mixed chorus, and the girls' glee club. Because no one in the house paid attention to her singing she never got the feeling that any of them thought she had a good voice but after an initial rush of stage fright before her first solo, Gaynor's confidence in her singing grew. Gloria graduated from high school with honors and knew she wanted a singing career. To appease her mother, who wanted Gaynor to have "something to fall back on", she went to beauty school and took business courses. While she continued to practice her singing, she worked many non-singing jobs in the years after high school, including a job at Bamberger's department store.

Gloria Gaynor was officially crowned the first queen of disco by The National Association of Discotheque Disc Jockeys in 1975. She electrified the clubs and radio with her 1974 "Never Can Say Goodbye" LP. The album track of that song alone topped the disco survey for four weeks that year and then the entire single side of that LP, "Honeybee/Never Can Say Goodbye/Reach Out, I'll Be There" spent one week at #2. In 1975, she scored another #1 disco hit with "Casanova Brown/(If You Want It)Do It Yourself/How High The Moon", then followed that up in 1976 with a third trio of segued songs, "Let's Make A Deal/I've Got You Under My Skin/Be Mine" that peaked at #4, a sign that perhaps it was time to change it up a little. A fourth try, "We Can Start All Over Again/Life Ain't Worth Livin'/Why Should I Pay", barely made Top 40 disco reaching #38. With Donna Summer coming up fast behind her, Gloria's career was on the downswing when she suffered a spinal injury when she fell off a stage while on tour in Europe, and then her beloved mother passed away. The recuperation time gave Gloria a lot of time to think, and she agreed to work with Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris, two pop music producers who were part of Motown's generic production team "The Corporation" for The Jackson Five. Once she was out of the hospital, they set about programming the album. "I Will Survive" was a heartfelt anthem to self determination that the label felt was too dramatic. "Substitute" had been originally recorded by the South African pop group Clout, who had a #67 pop hit US with it in the fall of 1978. The label, Polydor went with "Substitute" as the A side, and chose "I Will Survive" as the B side. Well, the clubs got a hold of "Substitute", checked out the B side, and made it the A side. It spent the first of 3 weeks at #1 starting the week ending January 27, 1979 disco and then it went on to pop #1 for three weeks starting March 10, 1979.

Gloria Gaynor recorded "I Will Survive" in 1978. It was a multi-million selling #1 in the US and the UK singles charts and Top 10 across the globe. The enduring success of the song and Gloria's performance has seen "I Will Survive" adopted as a call to arms anthem for the post-feminist age.
