Stanley Black y Su Orquesta interpretan "Two Guitars". Su versión fue incluida en su álbum "Russia", publicado en 1966 a través del sello Decca.

La canción 'Two Guitars' (Две Гитары o transliterado, 'Dve Gitari'), conocida por los rusos como "Tsiganochka", fue compuesta por el músico y director de coros ruso Iván Vasiliev, con letra del poeta, crítico literario y teatral, traductor y compositor ruso Apollon Grigoriev (nacido el 22 de julio de 1822 en Moscú y fallecido el 25 de septiembre de 1864 en San Petersburgo).

Grigoriev escribió el poema en 1857. El más famoso conjunto musical gitano de la época era el coro de Iván Vasiliev. Una vez, su amigo, Apollon Grigoriev, escuchó el coro y quedó tan prendado por el canto y el acompañamiento de guitarra que escribió un poema. Efectivamente, este poema fue 'Two Guitars'. Es un poema bastante extraño: habla de 'irse de juerga con los gitanos', beber durante una semana completa y de la ineludible resaca. Todos los restaurantes ostentaban una banda de cantores y bailarines gitanos, y casi todos los días, tanto nobles como caballeros se iban de parranda con los gitanos. Al mismo tiempo, Grigoriev describe la música casi como un musicólogo: "La melodía en re menor, los movimientos básicos, los intervalos de cinco notas...". Cuando el poeta terminó el texto, se lo mostró a su amigo Vasiliev, el director del coro. La respuesta de Vasiliev fue ponerle música a la letra, componiendo una melodía alegre. De esa manera nació esta canción folclórica clásica rusa.

Stanley Black nació el 14 de junio de 1913 y falleció el 27 de noviembre de 2002) fue un director de orquesta, compositor, arreglista y pianista inglés. Compuso y arregló muchas bandas sonoras de películas y grabó prolíficamente para el sello discográfico Decca (incluidos "London" y "Phase 4"). Inició sus actividades musicales haciendo colaboraciones en el género de jazz para músicos norteamericanos tales como Coleman Hawkins y Benny Carter durante los años treinta del siglo XX. Hizo grabaciones y arreglos de música latina y también ganó premios por arreglos para música clásica. Sus padres eran judíos de Polonia y Rumania. Inició lecciones de piano a los siete años de edad. Tenía sólo doce años cuando la BBC Radio emitió su primera composición musical y su éxito continuó cuando ganó un concurso a los quince. Eddie South (Nov.27,1904 - April 25,1962) was an American jazz violinist.

South was a classical violin prodigy who switched to jazz because of limited opportunities for African-American musicians, and started his career playing in vaudeville and jazz orchestras with Freddie Keppard, Jimmy Wade, Charles Elgar, and Erskine Tate in Chicago.

He was influenced by Hungarian folk music and Roma music starting with a visit to Europe in the 1920s, and adapted the music to jazz. In 1927 he started his own group, Eddie South and his Alabamians, named after the Alabam club where they played in Chicago, and, along with pianist and composer Henry Crowder, toured with them in Europe from 1928 to 1930.

On subsequent visits to Europe in the 1930s, he performed and recorded with guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinists Stéphane Grappelli and Michel Warlop. He also led bands that included pianist Billy Taylor and bassist Milt Hinton.
