Manuel's first single, released in August 1959.
This recording by Geoff Love differed from his normal recording style, having a Latin feel. So, to differentiate it, the guise "Manuel" was invented. The track entered the UK singles chart on 29 August 1959, and climbed to its highest position of no. 22 on 17 October 1959.
Initially, the idea was to keep the real identity of Manuel a secret. But, apparently, the subsequent album (The Music of the Mountains) became successful in America, and Manuel's identity was revealed as a result.
This track was re-recorded by Manuel for his 1971 album "Carnival".
The "B" side of this single was "Proud Matador". Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of that orignal recording. It was also re-recorded by Manuel for the "Carnival" album.
Manuel's 2nd single was "The Wedding Song", which I have uploaded on the "Music of the Mountains" album. Coming next, "The Water Carrier" from 1960.

Ακούμε το τραγούδι του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη 'Άν θυμηθείς τ' 'ονειρό μου' σε δύο διαφορετικές εκτελέσεις...
απο την μοναδική και αξεπέραστη Γιοβάννα,
καί
απο την ορχήστρα '' Μanuel and the Music of the Mountains '' (στην πραγματικότητα επρόκειτο για τον Άγγλο διευθυνή ορχήστρας Geoff Love ο οποίος εμφανιζόταν και με τα δύο ονόματα, ανάλογα με το ρεπερτόριο...).
Εξαιρετικά δημοφιλές τραγούδι σε όλον τον κόσμο, πολυτραγουδισμένο απο διάσημους ερμηνευτές, (ανάμεσά τους και οι Beatles), έχει μία ιστορία γεμάτη συμπτώσεις... Μελωδία φιαγμένη για να ντύσει μουσικά κάποιες σκηνές της ταινίας 'LUNA DE MIEL' (μήνας του μέλιτος)... μία Ισπανο/Αγγλική παραγωγή του 1958-59, ίσως να μήν είχε γυριστεί ποτέ σε δίσκο (!), άν δέν την είχε προσέξει ο παραγωγός της ταινίας, ο Άγγλος Michael Powell, μία μεγάλη φυσιογνωμία του κινηματογράφου, και δέν είχε πείσει τον Μίκη Θεοδωράκη να της δώσει ιδιαίτερη προσοχή.
Η ηχογράφηση με την Γιοβάννα που ακούμε πρώτα, αποφασίστηκε ξαφνικά κατά την διάρκεια μιάς συζήτησης μεταξύ Θεοδωράκη-Χατζιδάκι-Γκάτσου.
Αμέσως ειδοποίησαν τους μουσικούς, την Γιοβάννα, και πήγαν στο στούντιο.
Εκεί άρχισαν τις πρόβες υπό τις οδηγίες του Μάνου Χατζιδάκι, (χαρακτηριστικό είναι ότι η Γιοβάννα τραγουδούσε την μελωδία χωρίς λόγια... ενώ την ίδια στιγμή ο Νίκος Γκάτσος έγραφε τους στίχους...), και σε λίγο το τραγούδι ηχογραφήθηκε με το εκπληκτικό αποτέλεσμα που ακούμε, και με μαέστρο τον Χατζιδάκι.
Άν απορείτε γιατί στον δίσκο αναφέρεται σάν στιχουργός ο Βασ. Καρδής, αυτό ήταν το 'ψευδώνυμο' του Νίκου Γκάτσου σε πολλά δισκάκια της εποχής εκείνης.
Η εκτέλεση με τον Manuel που ακολουθεί, είναι σε πιό Λατινοαμερικάνικο ύφος.
Ο Manuel ηχογράφησε αυτό το κομμάτι τρείς φορές, σε τρία διαφορετικά άλμπουμ.
Η εκτέλεση που ακούμε εδώ είναι η καλύτερη, και είναι η πρώτη.
Το τραγούδι αυτό ήταν ιδιαιτέρως δημοφιλές σε όλη τη Νότιο Αμερική, όπου και είχε γυριστεί σε πάρα πολλές εκτελέσεις. Μία ιδέα του πόσο αγαπητό ήταν, μας δίνει και το ακόλουθο γεγονός.
Όταν ο Φιντέλ Κάστρο και οι δυνάμεις του πολιορκόυσαν την Αβάνα τον Ιανουάριο του 1959, υπήρχε ένας ραδιοφωνικός σταθμός των επαναστατικών δυνάμεων, που λεγόταν 'Ηavana Libre', έτοιμος να εκπέμψει μόλις επικρατούσε η επανάσταση. Όταν λοιπόν αυτό έγινε, η εκπομπή άρχισε σε όλη τη Λατινική Αμερική, και το πρώτο-πρώτο άκουσμα δέν ήταν κάποιο διάγγελμα, αλλά αυτό το τραγούδι του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη !!!
Η Κουβανέζικη επανάσταση λοιπόν, είχε και το Ελληνικό στοιχείο μέσα της !!!

"If you remember my dream" is a song written by Mikis Theodorakis in 1958 for the movie "Honeymoon" by Michael Powell . It was made internationally famous with English lyrics performed by Marino Marini as the "Honeymoon song" and rediscovered by The Beatles in 1963 as part of their collection "The Beatles: Live at the BBC". The Greek lyrics were written by Nikos Gatsos and the first performance was by the Greek singer Jovanna.

Beatles tribute band THE ASPREYS Playing "The Honeymoon Song" back stage at Roppongi Tokyo Japan 2006. It is the first live of THE ASPREYS in 2006. First member "POTTZ" as PAUL. Then, only PAUL carried out the member change.
There was much request of liking to see the video which the first member is performing.

Asprey is the name of the jewellery store which Ringo Starr entered to have the ring off from his finger in the movie "Help!". Asprey really exists on 165-169 Bond Street London. It was not possible to use because "THE ASPREYS" was a registered trademark of "ASPREY jewelery store", and it renamed it to "THE BEATRUSH".

απο την μοναδική και αξεπέραστη Γιοβάννα,
καί
απο την ορχήστρα '' Μanuel and the Music of the Mountains '' (στην πραγματικότητα επρόκειτο για τον Άγγλο διευθυνή ορχήστρας Geoff Love ο οποίος εμφανιζόταν και με τα δύο ονόματα, ανάλογα με το ρεπερτόριο...).
Εξαιρετικά δημοφιλές τραγούδι σε όλον τον κόσμο, πολυτραγουδισμένο απο διάσημους ερμηνευτές, (ανάμεσά τους και οι Beatles), έχει μία ιστορία γεμάτη συμπτώσεις... Μελωδία φιαγμένη για να ντύσει μουσικά κάποιες σκηνές της ταινίας 'LUNA DE MIEL' (μήνας του μέλιτος)... μία Ισπανο/Αγγλική παραγωγή του 1958-59, ίσως να μήν είχε γυριστεί ποτέ σε δίσκο (!), άν δέν την είχε προσέξει ο παραγωγός της ταινίας, ο Άγγλος Michael Powell, μία μεγάλη φυσιογνωμία του κινηματογράφου, και δέν είχε πείσει τον Μίκη Θεοδωράκη να της δώσει ιδιαίτερη προσοχή.
Η ηχογράφηση με την Γιοβάννα που ακούμε πρώτα, αποφασίστηκε ξαφνικά κατά την διάρκεια μιάς συζήτησης μεταξύ Θεοδωράκη-Χατζιδάκι-Γκάτσου.
Αμέσως ειδοποίησαν τους μουσικούς, την Γιοβάννα, και πήγαν στο στούντιο.
Εκεί άρχισαν τις πρόβες υπό τις οδηγίες του Μάνου Χατζιδάκι, (χαρακτηριστικό είναι ότι η Γιοβάννα τραγουδούσε την μελωδία χωρίς λόγια... ενώ την ίδια στιγμή ο Νίκος Γκάτσος έγραφε τους στίχους...), και σε λίγο το τραγούδι ηχογραφήθηκε με το εκπληκτικό αποτέλεσμα που ακούμε, και με μαέστρο τον Χατζιδάκι.
Άν απορείτε γιατί στον δίσκο αναφέρεται σάν στιχουργός ο Βασ. Καρδής, αυτό ήταν το 'ψευδώνυμο' του Νίκου Γκάτσου σε πολλά δισκάκια της εποχής εκείνης.
Η εκτέλεση με τον Manuel που ακολουθεί, είναι σε πιό Λατινοαμερικάνικο ύφος.
Ο Manuel ηχογράφησε αυτό το κομμάτι τρείς φορές, σε τρία διαφορετικά άλμπουμ.
Η εκτέλεση που ακούμε εδώ είναι η καλύτερη, και είναι η πρώτη.
Το τραγούδι αυτό ήταν ιδιαιτέρως δημοφιλές σε όλη τη Νότιο Αμερική, όπου και είχε γυριστεί σε πάρα πολλές εκτελέσεις. Μία ιδέα του πόσο αγαπητό ήταν, μας δίνει και το ακόλουθο γεγονός.
Όταν ο Φιντέλ Κάστρο και οι δυνάμεις του πολιορκόυσαν την Αβάνα τον Ιανουάριο του 1959, υπήρχε ένας ραδιοφωνικός σταθμός των επαναστατικών δυνάμεων, που λεγόταν 'Ηavana Libre', έτοιμος να εκπέμψει μόλις επικρατούσε η επανάσταση. Όταν λοιπόν αυτό έγινε, η εκπομπή άρχισε σε όλη τη Λατινική Αμερική, και το πρώτο-πρώτο άκουσμα δέν ήταν κάποιο διάγγελμα, αλλά αυτό το τραγούδι του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη !!!
Η Κουβανέζικη επανάσταση λοιπόν, είχε και το Ελληνικό στοιχείο μέσα της !!!

It was made internationally famous with English lyrics performed by Marino Marini as the "Honeymoon song" and rediscovered by The Beatles in 1963 as part of their collection "The Beatles: Live at the BBC". The Greek lyrics were written by Nikos Gatsos and the first performance was by the Greek singer Jovanna.

Beatles tribute band THE ASPREYS Playing "The Honeymoon Song" back stage at Roppongi Tokyo Japan 2006. It is the first live of THE ASPREYS in 2006. First member "POTTZ" as PAUL. Then, only PAUL carried out the member change.

Asprey is the name of the jewellery store which Ringo Starr entered to have the ring off from his finger in the movie "Help!". Asprey really exists on 165-169 Bond Street London. It was not possible to use because "THE ASPREYS" was a registered trademark of "ASPREY jewelery store", and it renamed it to "THE BEATRUSH".
