Λάι-λάι-λάι...

Λεό Λέανδρος (Leo Leandros)
Χαμένα όνειρα (Those were the days)

On ignorait la peur
Les lendemains avaient un goût de miel
Ton bras prenait mon bras

Ton bras prenait mon bras

Ton bras prenait mon bras

Dans une taverne du vieux Londres, [In a tavern in old London town]
nos voix criblées de joie montaient de l'ombre [our voices went up filled with joy from its dark corners]
et nous écoutions nos cœurs chanter... [and we used to hear our hearts singing...]

C'était le temps des fleurs [It was the spring-time of our lives]
On ignorait la peur [we never were afraid]
Les lendemains avaient un goût de miel [every day that passed was as sweet as honey]
Ton bras prenait mon bras [You put your hand in mine]
Ta voix suivait ma voix [and sang the song along with me]
On était jeunes et l'on croyait au ciel [we were young and had high spirits]

But then along came the gloomy days]
Avec des bruits étranges et des pleurs [and they brought with them our troubles and tears]
Combien j'ai passé de nuits sans lune [I have spent many a moonless night]
A chercher la taverne dans mon cœur [looking for my dear tavern again]

Tout comme au temps des fleurs [Just like the spring-time of our lives]
Où l'on vivait sans peur [when we were never afraid]
Où chaque jour avait un goût de miel [when every day that passed was as sweet as honey]
Ton bras prenait mon bras [You put your hand in mine]
Ta voix suivait ma voix [and sang the song along with me]
On était jeunes et l'on croyait au ciel [we were young and had high spirits]
La, la, la ......

Et ce soir je suis devant la porte [So tonight I stand before the door]
De la taverne où tu ne viendras plus [of the tavern you will no longer come to]
Et la chanson que la nuit m'apporte [and the song that the night carries for me]
Mon cœur déjà ne la connaît plus [has already been forgotten by my heart]

The Limeliters
Those Were The Days
Μουσική: Boris Fomin, Στίχοι: Gene Raskin
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1962
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"A playwright and singer who performed with his wife as "Gene & Francesca", Gene Raskin had originally given "Those Were the Days" to the Limeliters, an American trio who popularised it during the folk boom of the early Sixties along with another of his compositions, "That's Just the Way it Goes". Paul McCartney heard Gene & Francesca play "Those Were the Days" in a London club and recalled the song when picking material for his protegee Mary Hopkin, who had triumphed on ITV's Opportunity Knocks show." (source: Pierre Perroni, The Independent)

Original Russian title: DOROGOI DLINNOYU (Boris Fomin/Konstantin Podnevsky).

MARY HOPKIN
Those were the days
Μουσική: Boris Fomin, Στίχοι: Gene Raskin
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1968
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Those Were the Days" is a 1968 single and a track from the 1969 album, "Postcard" and the 1972 album "Those Were the Days". "Postcard" was Hopkin's debut album for Apple Records and was produced by Paul McCartney. The album peaked at #3 on the UK Albums Chart and #28 on the Billboard 200.
"Those Were the Days" was written by Boris Fomin and Gene Raskin after a Russian folk tune. The single was very successful, topping the UK Singles Chart and peaking at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. "Those Were the Days" was and remains Hopkin's biggest hit and one of Apple Records' biggest successes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Το "Those were the days" είναι ένα από τα λίγα τραγούδια, το οποίο έχει διασκευαστεί τόσες φορές.

Το 1970 αντιπροσώπευσε την Μεγάλη Βρετανία στον διαγωνισμό τραγουδιού Eurovision με το τραγούδι "Knock knock who's there", το οποίο ήρθε δεύτερο.

The opening black and white film is from 1968 and the remaining film is from around 1982.
This song sung by Mary Hopkin called "those were the days" is not translated from the song "Дорогой длинною" "Dorogo Dlinnoyu".

The song "Dorogoy Dlinnoyu (Along a long road)" was written in the 1920's by "Boris Fomin" (music) and "Konstantin Podrevsky" (lyrics). An American called Gene Raskin in the early 60's wrote the lyrics "Those were the days" and put them to Fomin's music. The words have no similarity whatsoever with Podrevsky's

Born in Wales Mary began her musical career as a folk singer with a local group called the Selby Set and Mary. She released an EP of Welsh language songs for a local label called Cambrian before signing to the Beatles Apple Label, model Twiggy saw her winning a TV talent show and recommended her to Paul McCartney.
