Johnny Rivers
A Whiter Shade Of Pale
Μουσική - Στίχοι: Gary Brooker-Keith Reid-Matthew Fisher
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see."
But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "I'm here on a shore leave,"
Though we were miles at sea.
I pointed out this detail
And forced her to agree,
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took King Neptune for a ride."
And she smiled at me so sweetly
That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

E embora meus olhos estivessem abertos,
Eles simplesmente podiam também ter ficado fechados.

Nós não dançamos um suave fandango
Demos cambalhotas pelo chão
Eu estava me sentindo meio enjoado
Mas a multidão pedia bis
O barulho no salão ficava maior
Enquanto o teto girava
Quando pedimos mais uma bebida
O garçom trouxe uma bandeja
E isso foi mais tarde
Quando a mariposa contou sua história
O rosto dela, a princípio apenas fantasmagórico
E embora meus olhos estivessem abertos
Daria no mesmo, caso eles estivessem fechados
E foi aí que, mais tarde
Quando a mariposa contou sua história
O rosto dela, a princípio apenas fantasmagórico

Entre eles, "Memphis" (cover de Chuck Berry), "Mountain of Love", "The Seventh Son", "Secret Agent Man", "Poor Side of Town" (número 1 nos EUA), "Baby I Need Your Lovin'" (cover do The Four Tops) e "Summer Rain".
No Brasil
Além de "Secret Agent Man", "Poor Side of Town" e "Baby I Need Your Lovin'", outras canções de Rivers ficaram mais populares entre o público brasileiro do que nos Estados Unidos, como os casos de "It´s Too Late", "Do You Wanna Dance?" e "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'". Seu hit "Do You Wanna Dance?" inspirou Michael Sullivan e Paulo Massadas a escreverem a música Whisky a Go Go,gravada em 1984 pela banda carioca Roupa Nova.

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

(2015)

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see."
But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "I'm here on a shore leave,"
Though we were miles at sea.
I pointed out this detail
And forced her to agree,
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took King Neptune for a ride."
And she smiled at me so sweetly
That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love

Han spento già la luce ..
Son rimasto solo io ..
e mi sento il mal di mare ..
Il bicchiere però è mio ..
cameriere lascia stare ..
Camminare io so .. !
L'aria fredda sai mi sveglierà ..
Oppure dormirò ..
Guardo lassù la notte ..
Quanto spazio intorno a me .. !
Sono solo nella strada ..
Oh no, no qualcuno c'è .. !
( .. insieme a te .. ! )
Non dire una parola .. !!
Ti darò quello che vuoi ..
Tu non le somigli molto ..
Non sei come lei .. !!
Però prendi la mia mano .. ♥
e cammina insieme a me il ..
Tuo viso adesso è bello ..
Tu sei bella come lei .. !
Guardo lassù la notte ..
Quanto spazio intorno a me .. !
Sono solo nella strada ..
Oh no, no qualcuno c'è ..

Johnny Rivers
A Whiter Shade Of Pale
Μουσική - Στίχοι: Gary Brooker-Keith Reid-Matthew Fisher
--------------------------------------------
We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see."
But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "I'm here on a shore leave,"
Though we were miles at sea.
I pointed out this detail
And forced her to agree,
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took King Neptune for a ride."
And she smiled at me so sweetly
That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

E embora meus olhos estivessem abertos,
Eles simplesmente podiam também ter ficado fechados.

Demos cambalhotas pelo chão

E isso foi mais tarde
Quando a mariposa contou sua história
O rosto dela, a princípio apenas fantasmagórico
E embora meus olhos estivessem abertos
Daria no mesmo, caso eles estivessem fechados
E foi aí que, mais tarde

E embora meus olhos estivessem abertos,

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see."
But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "I'm here on a shore leave,"
Though we were miles at sea.
I pointed out this detail
And forced her to agree,
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took King Neptune for a ride."
And she smiled at me so sweetly
That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

Han spento già la luce ..
Son rimasto solo io ..
e mi sento il mal di mare ..
Il bicchiere però è mio ..
cameriere lascia stare ..
Camminare io so .. !
L'aria fredda sai mi sveglierà ..
Oppure dormirò ..
Guardo lassù la notte ..
Quanto spazio intorno a me .. !
Sono solo nella strada ..
Oh no, no qualcuno c'è .. !
( .. insieme a te .. ! )
Non dire una parola .. !!
Ti darò quello che vuoi ..
Tu non le somigli molto ..
Non sei come lei .. !!
Però prendi la mia mano .. ♥
