We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see."
But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "I'm here on a shore leave,"
Though we were miles at sea.
I pointed out this detail
And forced her to agree,
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took King Neptune for a ride."
And she smiled at me so sweetly
That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

A Whiter Shade of Pale
Μουσική - Στίχοι: Gary Brooker-Keith Reid-Matthew Fisher

The video of the the bike trail along Fountain Creek, both south of town and up to Manitou, Mallards, Wigeon ducks and Mule Deer, taken on March 17 and 18, 2014.
The deer were trapped between me and the fence so hesitant to walk though. I moved over for them and they all ran past.
The music is my version of "A Whiter Shade of Pale", the debut single by the English band Procol Harum, released 12 May 1967.
I learned it from my dear friend Rick Stahl who does such a great version, I had to learn it.
(so got off my butt last week and learned it)
"A Whiter Shade of Pale" reached No. 1 in several countries when released in 1967. There are more than 1,000 recorded cover versions by other artists.
Keith Reid got the title and starting point for the song at a party.
He overheard someone at the party saying to a woman, "You've turned a whiter shade of pale," and the phrase stuck in his mind.
"I feel with songs that you're given a piece of the puzzle, the inspiration or whatever. In this case, I had that title, 'Whiter Shade of Pale,' and I thought, There's a song here. And it's making up the puzzle that fits the piece you've got. You fill out the picture, you find the rest of the picture that that piece fits into."
Reid formed Procol Harum in 1967 with Gary Brooker, becoming an official member even though he didn't sing or play any instruments. "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" was one of about 15 songs that he wrote for their first album.
The original lyrics had four verses but only two are heard on the original recording due to the time restraints of radio.
The third verse is played in live performances by Procol Harum, and more seldom, the fourth.
I decided to include all 4 verses and think the story isn't complete otherwise. No w3ay to leave out lyrics like:
"If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is front
Then dirt in truth is clean".
Reid says why they were removed: "Originally it was twice as long, and that was partly because at that time there was somewhat of a vogue for really long songs, whether it be Dylan or The Beatles "Hey Jude." So I was trying to write a really long song. But as we started routine-ing it and getting it ready to record, one of the verses just fell away pretty naturally - we dropped it pretty early on in the process. We felt it was just a bit too long, because, the song was like nearly 10 minutes. We were rehearsing it with three verses, so it was running about 7 minutes or so, and our producer said, 'Look, if you want to get airplay, if you want this record to be viable, you probably should think about taking out a verse.' And we did. I didn't feel badly about it because it seemed to work fine. It didn't really bother me."
Their video for the song was shot in the ruins of Witley Court in Worcestershire, England.
The Witley Court video features four of the five musicians who played on the hit single: Gary Brooker, Matthew Fisher, David Knights and Ray Royer, in performance and walking through the ruins.
It is one of the earliest music videos ever made.
Some say the lyrics, "As the miller told his tale" is a reference to "The Miller's Tale," from Chaucer's English novel The Canterbury Tales. In the Canterbury Tales a variety of people on a pilgrimage tell stories, the miller tells his tale which is kind of raunchy.
Reid, however, disproves this theory. He said: "I'd never read The Miller's Tale in my life. Maybe that's something that I knew subconsciously, but it certainly wasn't a conscious idea for me to quote from Chaucer, no way."
Reid wrote: "It's sort of a film, really, trying to conjure up mood and tell a story. It's about a relationship. There's characters and there's a location, and there's a journey. You get the sound of the room and the feel of the room and the smell of the room. But certainly there's a journey going on, it's not a collection of lines just stuck together. It's got a thread running through it."

That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

But I wandered through my playing cards
and would not let her be
one of sixteen vestal virgins
who were leaving for the coast
and although my eyes were open
they might have just as well've been closed
She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,'
though in truth we were at sea
so I took her by the looking glass
and forced her to agree
saying, 'You must be the mermaid
who took Neptune for a ride.'
But she smiled at me so sadly
that my anger straightway died
If music be the food of love
then laughter is its queen
and likewise if behind is in front

El último fandango
Al borde del amanecer
Con la Luna bailando.
Odiando el nuevo día
Aunque vendrá la luz
A mi me traerá la oscuridad.
Se que el destino es tan cruel
No le suplicaré piedad.
Cuando el Sol salga
Sólo me dejará
Ese aroma de mujer
Y el recuerdo de una cara
Y su blanca palidez.
Ya se acerca el alba
Se que con el se ira el placer
De una dulce virginidad.
Hasta ahora ha sido mía
Y ya no la puedo retener
Ni a ella ni a la felicidad.
Ya no tengo el poder
se marcha con la luz
perdí mi última oportunidad.
Cuando el Sol salga
Sólo me dejará
Ese aroma de mujer
Y el recuerdo de una cara
Y su blanca palidez.

No podria olvidar
Que cuando fui yo tuya
Fue tal como sonar
Y Aunque todo haya pasado
Estan latiendo en mi
Todos aquellos momentos
Que vivi yo junto a ti
Que Y asi recuerdo
Tantas veces que adore
Tu boca mustia y dulce
Y tu blanca palidez
Diran, que yo no debo
Siquiera recordar
Que una vez
Fui yo tuya
Y no lograste amar
Pero todo con el tiempo
Se acerca hacia un final
Ver que todo marchitaba
Cuando yo te vi marchar
Pero aun recuerdo
Tantas veces que bese
Tu boca mustia y dulce

But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink

A Whiter Shade of Pale
Μουσική - Στίχοι: Gary Brooker-Keith Reid-Matthew Fisher
--------------------------------------------
The video of the the bike trail along Fountain Creek, both south of town and up to Manitou, Mallards, Wigeon ducks and Mule Deer, taken on March 17 and 18, 2014.
--------------------------------------------
We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see."
But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "I'm here on a shore leave,"
Though we were miles at sea.
I pointed out this detail
And forced her to agree,
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took King Neptune for a ride."
And she smiled at me so sweetly
That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

Sólo me dejará
Ese aroma de mujer
Y el recuerdo de una cara
Y su blanca palidez.
Ya se acerca el alba
Se que con el se ira el placer
De una dulce virginidad.
Hasta ahora ha sido mía
Y ya no la puedo retener
Ni a ella ni a la felicidad.
Ya no tengo el poder
se marcha con la luz
perdí mi última oportunidad.
Cuando el Sol salga
Sólo me dejará
Ese aroma de mujer
Y el recuerdo de una cara
Y su blanca palidez.

But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "I'm here on a shore leave,"
Though we were miles at sea.
I pointed out this detail
And forced her to agree,
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took King Neptune for a ride."
And she smiled at me so sweetly
That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

Y claro que recuerdo
No podria olvidar
Que cuando fui yo tuya
Fue tal como sonar
Y Aunque todo haya pasado
Estan latiendo en mi
Todos aquellos momentos
Que vivi yo junto a ti
Que Y asi recuerdo
Tantas veces que adore
Tu boca mustia y dulce
Y tu blanca palidez
Diran, que yo no debo
Siquiera recordar
Que una vez
Fui yo tuya
Y no lograste amar
Pero todo con el tiempo
Se acerca hacia un final
Ver que todo marchitaba
Cuando yo te vi marchar
Pero aun recuerdo
Tantas veces que bese
Tu boca mustia y dulce
Con su blanca palidez
Uh uh uh uh uuu
Uh uh uh uu

(Live 1989)
live on January 4, 1989 at Chicken Geroge, Kobe.
--------------------------------------------
We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see."
But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
